Lottery Hongkong is the principal lottery game in the city and is run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) – founded back in 1884. The HKJC is a non-profit organization and all surplus monies go to charity. Every year they give away around HK$ 1 Billion to various community projects and charities.
The HKJC operates a traditional jackpot style lottery that is incredibly popular in the region and has gained recognition from across the globe. It uses what is known as a 6/49 matrix which means that 7 numbers are drawn each draw and there are six different prize levels. The HKJC also holds special Mark Six Snowball draws throughout the year and these usually offer much bigger jackpots than the thrice weekly drawings.
In addition to their regular lottery games, the HKJC offers a variety of sports betting products. These are sold in dedicated shops and at counters in supermarkets, post offices, gas stations and more. The HKJC is also working to consolidate the lottery market in China, with improved payouts and new channels being offered.
The HKJC is now offering free flights to Hong Kong this year in an effort to attract tourists. The giveaway will begin in March and last for around six months. Airlines such as Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Greater Bay Airlines are taking part in the promotion. The flights will be awarded through a lottery system or on a first come, first serve basis.
