Singapore Pools is one of the country’s oldest and most popular lottery operators. It operates 3 different lottery games, namely 4-D, Toto and Singapore Sweep. It also operates horse racing and sports betting in Singapore.
The main draw of the game is to choose six numbers from a pool of up to 49. The first six numbers are the jackpot winners, while an additional number is selected to determine the lower prize tiers.
Depending on the method of entry, tickets can cost up to S$900. This is because players have the option to choose a set of 12 numbers (system entries) or five numbers with an extra number selected as a rolling ball, for example.
This system offers better odds than ordinary entry, but is more expensive. It also involves a much larger selection of numbers, as well as more complicated calculations to ensure that all combinations are valid.
Winnings and health – a study of lottery winners in Singapore
In our study, we find that lottery wins improve household members’ self-reported overall health status. In fact, a S$10,000 increase in unearned income via lottery winnings improved the odds of reporting excellent or very good health by 7.3 percentage points.
A recent survey of lottery players in Singapore revealed that nearly 43% of them had won a lottery at least once during the previous 12 months. This is the highest level of participation in the country’s lottery industry in more than a decade.
